Lopa Patel MBE is an entrepreneur, Chair, Non-Executive Director and one of the UK’s leading voices on technology, artificial intelligence and inclusive leadership. Drawing on more than two decades of board-level experience across business, government, healthcare and the charity sector, she helps organisations navigate one of the defining leadership challenges of our time: how to harness AI while strengthening the uniquely human qualities that technology cannot replace.

Having founded three successful technology businesses in online media and data-driven marketing, Lopa combines first-hand entrepreneurial experience with extensive boardroom leadership. Today she advises organisations responsible for billions of pounds of public investment, chairs national organisations and provides strategic oversight of digital transformation, AI, risk and governance.
Her central message is simple: AI will change how we work, but human emotion, kindness, curiosity, ethics, creativity and inclusive leadership will determine who succeeds. In the age of AI, these qualities are no longer simply desirable, they are the human advantage. Drawing on real examples from the boardroom, business and public service, Lopa helps leaders move beyond the hype to understand where AI creates value, where governance matters and why people remain every organisation’s greatest competitive advantage.

Alongside her commercial career, Lopa has become one of the UK’s most influential champions of equity, diversity and inclusion. As Chair of Diversity UK, she has helped transform a volunteer-led charity into a nationally recognised organisation that has influenced public policy, championed under-represented talent and convened conversations across business, government, academia and the third sector.

Under her leadership, Diversity UK has:

  • Supported almost 200 equality, diversity and inclusion events.
  • Delivered more than 40 flagship conferences, summits and national receptions.
  • Published influential research and impact reports informing national debate.
  • Celebrated hundreds of entrepreneurs, innovators and changemakers.
  • Helped shape policy through government reviews and public consultations.

Lopa is equally at home delivering keynote presentations, moderating high-profile panel discussions and facilitating executive conversations. Her engaging, conversational style encourages audiences to challenge assumptions, embrace innovation and explore practical solutions. Whether speaking to global conferences, leadership teams or boards, she combines strategic insight with warmth, humour and a genuine curiosity that encourages audiences to think differently.

A respected voice within the UK’s innovation ecosystem, Lopa is a long-standing judge for The King’s Awards for Enterprise (Innovation), recognising some of Britain’s most pioneering businesses. She has been recognised as one of Computer Weekly’s UKTech50 and among the UK’s leading female technology founders for her contribution to technology, entrepreneurship and digital innovation.

Lopa was awarded an MBE for services to the creative industries and received an Honorary Doctorate from The Open University for her contribution to diversity in science and technology, and to British industry and society. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Fellow of the Institute of Data & Marketing.

Audiences leave with practical strategies for leading through technological change, building cultures where innovation flourishes and understanding why, in the age of AI, the greatest advantage organisations possess is still their people.

“Wow where do I begin? I want to start by saying a huge thank you to all of you for speaking on your panel! It was absolutely brilliant and I took a lot away from it. As you can see from the photos attached, your session was a success and a lot of people have reached out to me saying what fantastic speakers you were and how interactive it was. They were also wondering if we would be producing more content like this for next year’s event and at other events of ours and the answer to that is YES! This was the first year where we have properly produced content for the Startup Britain Stage and I have come away with lots of ideas and thoughts for next year to make it even bigger and better.” Katie Dudney, Conference Producer – Connected Britain 2023 .
