Prof Mary Aiken

Professor Mary Aiken has forged a decorated reputation as a world-leading authority on Cyberpsychology – the in-depth study of how technology impacts human behaviour. Currently sharing her pioneering expertise as the Professor of Cyberpsychology and Chair of the Department of Cyberpsychology at Capitol Technology University, Mary is acclaimed for her contributions to information technology and the cybersecurity sector. Having advised internationally on the intersection of technology and human behaviour, Mary Aiken is now a popular keynote speaker for a multitude of events on human factors in cybersecurity, trust, safety and safety tech.

Mary’s decorated career began with a background in marketing, having formerly worked as the Senior Vice President of Equity Marketing Inc. Later becoming the Director of Aiken Innovation R&D, Mary began to delve into her interests in how human behaviour is impacted by technology when she co-led a White House research team as part of the Obama Administration’s initiative “Tech Vs Human Trafficking”, along with her role as the Director of the Cyber Psychology Research Centre at RCSI. Since then Mary has demonstrated her adept understanding of cyberpsychology, having also worked as an Academic Advisor of the European Cyber Crime Centre for Europol, a Professor of Forensic Cyberpsychology at the University of East London, a Member of the INTERPOL Global Cybercrime Expert Group and a Chief Scientist of Safety Tech for the Paladin Capital Group.

Proving to be a powerful educator in cyberpsychology, Mary has also held roles of Adjunct Associate Professor and Adjunct Professor at University College Dublin. Having also been appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a Global Fellow of The Wilson Centre, it is without surprise that Mary has been inducted into the Infosecurity Europe Hall of Fame and named as one of the Top 50 Most Inspiring Women in Technology in Europe. Mary has also been awarded Freedom of the City of Dublin, been named one of the Top 50 Women in GovTech in the Asia Pacific Region on two occasions and claimed recognition as one of the 100 Top Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Internationally recognised as an expert on policy debates at the intersection of technology and human behaviour, Mary has consolidated her expertise in the Times Book of the Year “The Cyber Effect”. Currently the UEL Co-Lead on a €5 million EU Horizon research project investigating human and technical drivers of cybercrime, Professor Mary also shares her time with keynote speaking engagements on cyberpsychology and human factors in cybersecurity.
