Steve is now an entrepreneur owning 3 businesses including Total Swimming – a company that is at the forefront of innovating the swimming space across the UK. Steve’s Vision as Managing Director now means Total Swimming teaches 30,000 children to swim a year by taking innovative temporary pools to underprivileged children in Britain’s poorest inner city areas.
In addition to his business interests Steve is also one of the BBC’s most popular sports pundits presenting Radio Five Lives’ swimming and cycling coverage in addition to his regular slot on their Olympic preview programme. Steve also presents the BBC North West Olympic coverage and ‘The Great Swim Series’ for channel Five.
Steve’s greatest challenge came when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, only 4 weeks after getting married. After treatment for the disease, Steve is now 3 years cancer free. He is now an ambassador for Cancer Research UK and in 2011 teamed up with Richard Branson and other celebrities to swim the Irish Sea, generating £300,000 for charity.
An inspirational speaker, Steve is ideal to convey a message about overcoming adversity, implementing a vision, how to turn failure into success and embracing change. Steve talks openly about his experiences of fighting cancer, building a business and the attributes athletes need to be world class, making him one of the most motivational speakers we’ve come across.
