Gary Parsons is a leadership mental health advocate, speaker and mentor who specialises in helping leaders perform at a high level without sacrificing their wellbeing. He is the creator of Selfish Leadership™, a practical framework that challenges the outdated myth of leaders needing to carry everything alone. Gary works with organisations to build cultures where resilience, clarity and sustainable performance are the norm rather than the exception.

Gary brings more than fifteen years of leadership experience, having co-founded and grown a multi-award-winning people consultancy. Throughout this period, he experienced the intense pressure, responsibility and pace that come with senior leadership, often while quietly battling burnout and depression. His journey gives him a unique insight into the realities many leaders face behind closed doors and informs the practical tools and strategies he now teaches.

Diagnosed with facial paralysis at 18, Gary has also lived with a visible difference for more than twenty years. His appearance on Channel 4’s Love My Face amplified his message around authenticity, confidence and the masks leaders wear at work. His personal story enhances his leadership work, offering audiences a powerful reminder that high performance and humanity can, and should, coexist.

Gary is an engaging presenter whose talks combine relatable storytelling with practical leadership insight. He has spoken to leaders in corporates, public sector teams and entrepreneurial environments, helping them strengthen self-awareness, protect their energy and lead in a way that drives performance while supporting their own wellbeing.

Gary’s Most Popular Keynotes:

  • How Selfish Leaders Make the Best Leaders

Many leaders are carrying too much responsibility, absorbing constant pressure, and paying for it with burnout, poor decisions, and diminishing performance. In this keynote, award-winning entrepreneur Gary Parsons helps leaders rethink how they carry responsibility, manage pressure, and sustain performance, without sacrificing themselves in the process. Drawing on lived experience and a practical leadership philosophy, Gary shows why prioritising yourself isn’t selfish, it’s essential for long-term organisational success.

Problem solved: Leaders becoming the bottleneck through over-responsibility and burnout.

Result: Clearer thinking, healthier leadership, stronger performance over time

  • Learning How to Smile Again

Leadership relies heavily on confidence, connection, and trust, yet we rarely talk about what happens when those signals don’t land as intended. After living with facial paralysis for over 20 years, Gary Parsons shares a powerful story about resilience, vulnerability, and leading when your expression doesn’t match your intent. This keynote explores emotional intelligence, unseen pressure, and authenticity in high-performance roles, offering a deeply human perspective on leadership beyond the mask.

Problem solved: Disconnection, misinterpretation, and the hidden emotional cost of leadership.

Result: More authentic leaders who communicate with empathy, clarity, and courage.

“Gary’s session provided an emotional and unique perspective that has lead to his success through his own journey. Gary challenges business leaders to look through an alternative lens and recognise that traditional ‘selfishness’ can actually empower people to avoid sacrificing their values and burning out. By being able to prioritise and say ‘no’, business leaders are able to give more to the things that truly matter. I found the presentation inspiring and Gary had a lovely way of presenting with humour and vulnerability. It turns out, Gary’s initial concerns and worries have transformed him into a wonderful person, who reminds and inspires us to be kind to ourselves so that we can be the best versions of ourselves. You really are an inspiration and I’m glad that I have met you.”
“I found the talk really enjoyable. It was interesting, with great tips. I loved hearing your story. I came away wanting to hear and learn more from you, and that’s always a good sign. I also found it valuable to be reminded of how there is a community of us who, although our conditions vary, share so much. Thank you.”
