Quick Quote

A renaissance man of business, Roger Mavity has founded his own advertising agency, run it successfully for ten years, sold it, became CEO of Granada Group’s Leisure Division, chaired a major PR group, and for seven years been CEO of Sir Terence Conran’s group of businesses

After 10 successful years heading his own agency, Mavity Gilmore Jaume, Roger sold his business to become Chief Executive of Granada’s Leisure division. It was here that he led the pitch for the company’s takeover of the Forte Group, which is still to this day the largest hostile takeover bid in British commercial history. Roger has recently left his position as CEO of the Conran Group to focus on his writing, photography and speaking. He now shares his experiences of how to lead a global company – explaining his golden rule of keeping things simple.

Roger has a proven leadership record across a range of sectors, leading large corporate businesses, as well as developing and running more creative companies such as his own agency and Conran Group. Roger retains the rare ability to be creative whilst leading from the top, developing as opposed to preserving. Throughout his career, Roger developed a reputation as an expert when it came to pitching.

His first book, ‘Life’s a Pitch’ has become an international bestseller – selling over 60,000 copies. His second book, ‘The Rule-Breakers Book of Business’, came out in 2013 and is devoted to the simple – yet vital – idea that success at work is much more likely to be achieved if we are happy and confident in what we do. But it also believes that to solve today’s business problems we need to rely much less on analysis and much more on creativity.

Mavity’s latest book, “How to Steal Fire”, will be published by penguin later this year. Like his global bestseller “Life’s a Pitch” it is co-authored with design guru and commentator Stephen Bayley. The focus of the book is creativity – a topic of real interest for businesses as well as individuals. It aims to expose the myths in current thinking about this big subject, and the explain the underlying truths. It’s destined to give important new insights into a subject that matters to us all.
