Michael Tobin OBE is an English industry entrepreneur, businessman, author and philanthropist. He was CEO of FTSE 250 data centre operator Telecity Group.
Michael is known for his role as the maverick CEO of Telecity – the leading data centre business in the UK, and his career journey is as unconventional as some of his motivational techniques.
Michael made Telecity the leading data centre business in Europe, and now 90% of Britain’s internet traffic passes through the centre which he created in the London Docklands. When he joined the company it was almost bankrupt, but, was worth £1.6bn when he left in October 2014.
Michael’s book ‘Forget Strategy, Get Results’ is written from the point of view of someone achieving extraordinary business success in today’s turbulent economy. It offers a disruptive way of thinking about successfully managing any sort of business, under any conditions, and it identifies eleven fundamental rules that any manager or leader can adopt at any level in any organisation. Michael is currently engaged in a number of Non-Exec roles in 4 continents helping businesses within the Technology Media Telecommunication space.
Children’s charities are one of Michael’s biggest passions, he has been a fundraising Board member of Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2011 and Michael did 40 marathons in 40 days in July 2016 to raise over £1m for the 40 year anniversary of the Prince’s Trust’s 40th.
In the 2014 New Year’s Honours List Michael received recognition from Her Majesty The Queen with an OBE for his contribution to the UK digital economy.
