Lola joined her first rowing team during high school and quickly demonstrated her talent and dedication, winning numerous national events, and subsequently being selected for the GB junior team where she continued to thrive on the world stage.
Representing Newcastle University, Lola became widely recognised as a top-tier rower and progressed to the GB Under-23’s squad, where she won Gold at the Under 23’s World Championships in the W4x. Graduating in 2018, Lola’s years in Newcastle were marked with national and international success, all whilst gaining a degree in English Literature.
Lola remained committed to training after university, becoming a full-time British Rowing athlete and winning a bronze medal in the W1x at the World Rowing Cup in 2021. A year later Lola won silver in the W2x at the World Rowing Cup l before earning her first senior gold medal for Great Britain at the European Rowing Championships in Munich in the W4x. She rounded off a successful 2022 with a bronze medal at the World Rowing Championships in the W4x.
Lola had firmly established herself on the global rowing stage and was fully focussed on the Paris 2024 Olympics, now just a year away. Her success came with expectations which she continued to surpass and 2023 saw Lola and the Great Britain Women’s team make the Quadruple Sculls event their own. They achieved two silver medals at the World Cups, one bronze medal at the European Championships and finished the year with a gold medal at the World Championships.
Despite injury struggles in the lead up to the Olympics, Lola’s dedication to her training and the team continued and momentum continued to build after the team’s win at the European Championships, followed by another gold medal at the World Cup.
The culmination of hard work, dedication and consistency came together for Lola and her three teammates at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games when they crossed the line just 0.15 seconds ahead of the Dutch team. 12 years on from Lola writing a note in her diary reading ‘My name is Lola Anderson and I think it would be my biggest dream in life to go to the Olympics in rowing and if possible win a gold for GB’, she achieved just that. Her Olympic Gold in the Women’s Quadruple sculls cemented her place in British Rowing and Olympic history.
