George Clarke is an architect, designer, broadcaster, writer and passionate campaigner who has dedicated his life to the belief that great architecture can transform lives. From a working-class childhood in Sunderland to architect, broadcaster and advocate – an inspirational story of drive, resilience and purpose.
Inspired from the age of 12 to become an architect, George champions quality design and places environmental responsibility at the heart of his work. He is committed to Net Zero Carbon goals, ecological housing, sustainable development, and creating places that promote health, wellbeing and happiness.
As one of Britain’s most successful architectural TV presenters, George began his broadcasting career on Channel 5 before moving to Channel 4, where he has spent over 17 years fronting some of the nation’s most beloved home and design programmes. His credits include The Home Show, Restoration Man, Old House New Home, and the globally acclaimed George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces.
George is also known for his powerful campaigning work. The Empty Homes Scandal highlighted the urgent need to bring empty homes back into use, while The Great British Council House Scandal continues his mission to challenge the long-term impact of Right to Buy and advocate for rebuilding vital social housing stock.
Dedicated to social impact and community causes, George serves as an ambassador for The Prince’s Foundation and Shelter, is a trustee of the Foundation of Light in Sunderland, and is a patron of The Civic Trust Awards and arts charity Artichoke.
George studied architecture at the University of Newcastle and University College London (The Bartlett School of Architecture) and has been awarded honorary doctorates from Sunderland University, the University of Northumbria, Teesside University, Leeds Beckett University and the University of Wolverhampton.
