With more than 20 years experience working in challenging corporate environments and dealing with change programmes, having trained with the British Association of Anger Management and having dealt with some of the most stressed and angry individuals, Julian knows a thing or two about emotional resilience.

Julian is the founder of Calm People and cofounder of Inner Calm and Calm Execs. At the heart of each of these projects is a desire to take really good emotional and personal development and help organisations and individuals alike, develop and evolve at the same pace as our ever changing environment.

Julian is engaged as a columnist for Business Matters Magazine & UK News Group writing on the subject of emotional resilience in today’s workplace. He also finds himself in demand to supply articles to other HR related, leadership publications and The Law Society.

Julian also regularly appears on BBC radio and is quoted in the national press, most recently BBC Radio 4 PM programme, London Evening Standard, The Guardian, The Sun and Essentials Magazine & LBC Radio.

In January 2023 Julian was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes and liver. As befits his personality, and being true to his work, Julian chose to make his emotional resilience the central pillar with which to build his journey through cancer. Since then he has been through 16 weeks of chemotherapy, 5 weeks of daily radiotherapy and chemotherapy and is currently enjoying another 24 week treatment with chemotherapy. All of this is happening because the progress is excellent and, as the doctors put it, “your body responds so well to the treatment we can give you more.” While going through treatment Julian continues to work part time, continues speaking at events, playing competitive badminton and very poor golf. Julian is clear that the tools he shares with clients every day have helped him navigate the, at times, frightening and saddening condition, and improved his outcomes. He enjoys sharing both the story and the tools.

As he says “when it comes to mind over matter, the mind matters.”
