Our Excelling in Operational Management programme is a comprehensive management development initiative. This programme aligns to the Operations / Departmental Manager apprenticeship standard and will develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for this level of role.

Leading Self

Leading Self

1. Management of Self

The first part of ‘Excelling in Operational Management’ journey begins with the process of self management. You will explore how to get the best out of yourselves, create personal development plans and use analysis tools to support you through your apprenticeship and beyond. You will also cover personal skills such as workload planning, effective time management and prioritisation methods.

2. Self-Awareness

Building on your personal effectiveness, through the learning and application of self-awareness tools, you will develop your emotional intelligence, resilience, recognise
and mitigate unconscious bias. You will also explore the effect of imposter syndrome, while understanding of different learning and behavioural styles will encourage the positive impact you have on others performance and across the wider organisation.

3. Building Relationships

In this final part of ‘Leading Self’. You will develop a deeper understanding of effective relationships with partners and stakeholders. You will explore how trust, collaboration, and conflict management help with developing and maintaining relationships. In addition, you will enhance your negotiation and influencing skills.

4. Managing People

Playing an integral role in your team’s performance, you will develop your competence and skills in managing people. You will explore how to optimise your team’s performance, including how to recruit talent, effectively manage performance and talent as well as enhancing the development of high-performance teams.

5. Leading People

In order to be a great leader, you must understand your leadership style and your impact on your organisational culture. With consideration of different types of teams, you will develop your ability to motivate others and improve performance through coaching and mentoring. You will also develop a deeper understanding of leading and managing change.

6. Problem Solving & Decision Making

Kicking off ‘Leading the Business,’ you will be provided with the tools and techniques to efficiently solve problems and make difficult decisions. You will explore a more considered and systematic approach to making more effective decisions whilst considering the impact on these of your organisation’s ethics and values.

7. Project Management

Within the project management module, you will explore effective project management throughout the full project lifecycle. Utlising a range of skills learned to date you will engage with different tools and techniques to impact positive change within the business, enabling the achievement of business results.

8. Operational Management & Finance

Effective operational business planning is an essential skill for a great leader. Here you will develop your understanding of operational management approaches. You will gain a deeper understanding of management systems, data security and contingency planning while being able to identify barriers to overcome in order to initiate change.

Communication

Effective communication is an essential part of leadership and underpins the entire apprenticeship journey. Throughout all the workshops, you will be building on your communication knowledge and skills, from gaining a more thorough understanding of interpersonal skills and the different forms of communication to being able to apply them appropriately in situations such as when giving constructive feedback.

During the programme, in addition to developing your leadership knowledge and skills, you will also be developing your character to excel at leadership and management. Throughout your journey you will demonstrate the behaviours required of a successful leader; responsibility, inclusivity, agility, and professionalism.

The programme maps to a Level 5 advanced apprenticeship standard.

The average programme length is 15 months plus 5 months for End Point Assessment.

Average of 6 working hours per week. We have designed our programme in a way that ensures learners achieve these hours through the completion of the tasks set. These are often naturally occurring activities that will be undertaken in work.

Eligibility

The learner must work at least 50% of their time in England and must not have a qualification at the same level or above in this subject area.

Achievement is gained through completion of End Point Assessments which are carried out by an Independent End Point Assessment Organisation.

Certificate from the Institute of Apprenticeships, Certificate from the Institute of Leadership & Management, designations and digital credentials as a Member of the Institute (MInstLM) (membership fee applies)

Levy Funding available

As we are a Government Registered Apprenticeships Training Provider, you can use your Levy to fund this programme. Not enough funds in your Levy account? Don’t worry, the government will co-fund 95% of the programme costs.

Funded up to £7,000 per learner
